Don't know if this is new enough for the modern section but need help anyway. This receicer quit cold on me a couple of months ago. Started by getting a little distorted on both channels but when switched off then back on it would clear up. This would usually happen 2-3 times during a movie but the last movie we watched it worked great through the complete movie so I just didn't think there was a problem any more. WRONG next time I tried to listen to a tape I have no sound at all under any circumstances except everything works normal through headphones. Pulled the cover to check fuses and they are all OK. Part of the main amp board looks overheated though but can't see any visible signs of damage Can't seem to find a schematic anywhere but have found a parts diagram and partial parts list from the R/S site. Anyone got any ideas? Would really like to get this back up and running since my Pioneer SX 750 will not fit in the enclosure.

Finally totally disassembled this to get to the amp board that had the overheating look. Of course it had to be the first board in when they assembled the receiver. At least each board that had to be removed just unplugged from the rest instead of having to unsolder everything and re-solder to reassemble. Found a couple of questionable solder joints to a couple of resistors and two were loose on one end so retouched everything that looked different and just reassembled it. Hooked everything back up and while crossing my fingers I turned it on. Power relay click--good, protection light goes off--good, turn up the volume--no sound, nothing. Bummer I thought, then I saw the speaker A-B switches were both off. Engaged the A speakers and YEA I have sound again. Need to put it through it's pases again to make sure but it seems everything is working again. Still doesn't match my SX-750 tho.
Thanks fro everyone here(through other boards) giving me the confidence to tackle this. I just figured what have I got to lose. If I screw up I will just have to buy another vintage piece instead of something newer(I may anyway)
