Yes I have had experience with one, all bad.
there was a design flaw in the transport which affected the 9R and I believe
a model or two below.
The specs were good, and it played well on the rare occasion
that it worked. :thumbsdn:

If I remember correctly this series used flat direct drive motors, i.e. the tape spindle base was actually the motor magnet mounted in front of the motor coils just like many turntables (sorry this sounds so confusing, can't find any pictures to help explain). This made for a compact transport without pulleys and idlers, but!!!!!! it got VERY hot in the tape well, not the ideal place for a tape.

That picture is the CT-90R.
I owned the CT-90R and found it to be an excellent deck. Never had problems with the tape transport at all. Always worked fine for the 4 years that I had it but I do admit it had one problem with wow and flutter. At the beginning of the tape for about 2 minutes no matter which tape you used you got wow and flutter. Was that from a bad transport? :scratch2:
