I too am in this same boat as some of those who have posted on here earlier...

Movies are my passion when it comes to relaxing. My goal is total suspension of belief as I "decompress" in my theater room. But I also love listening to stereo recordings on occasion (5% of the time)

That being said...I am currently considering going with (3) 501's across the fronts, and (2) 252's for a 7.1 setup. I have an MX-135 and I would love to hear from those who have a similar setup. But the question is, is the cost of the 501's & 252's justified due to their superior performance, in light of the great performance of a 207 at a significantly less price point? Approximately $22000 for the former, and around $7000 for the latter (new)? Pre-Owned would change the financial issue some.

In other words...Is there a $15000 difference between the 2 setups. Thoughts?

Ps...I am patient and can wait to build a system...

I am using 3 MC501 and two MC252. The MC501s are clearly better than the amps in the line below it. I found that with one movie, "Master and Commander," I need the extra power of the MC252s on the surround channels. With all other movies I could have gotten away with a lot less power on the surrounds since they are crossed over at 60hz. I could possibly use a different amp on the surrounds. There is no way I would give up the MC501s. So for me, the price of the MC501s is worth every penny.

Yup! The MC-501 amps are WAY nicer!

Yea...
I may go with 402s for the rears, as I have heard that the 252's may not keep up with the 501's...

I know cost is a big factor, but as I said, I can spread out my purchases over a year, or years if need be. I have the 402 now, and am picking up a pair of 501's Wednesday, so I am well on my way.

I just dont know that after being used to the MC-402 on the front channels, I would be able to go to a MC-207. I dont want there to be anything between me and the original score/effect/music. Plus I love every McIntosh box I can get! Thoughts?

The 207 is nice until you hear the 402. The 402 is nice until you hear the 501, etc...... (I think that Ivan said something to that effect)... and I 100% agree
