We got another 6-7 inches of snow last night, It took me about 2/12 hour to shovel my drive this morning. Next year I'm getting a blower. It takes me about 1/12 hours to mow. Riding. I can't wait for summer.

I'd rather be pool cleaning. I live for the summer heat. 80 here tomorrow, BTW.

I'm with ya. If it's nice enough to mow around here, that means it's nice enough to ride my motorcycle out to my moms house to mow. Both of which I would prefer to be doing right now.

Mowing is fun, but its one of the worst investments. Cant get a (good) riding mower any more for less than a 1000 bux. But I do like the after affect and the smells!

I agree. We received about 4 inches of very wet snow today.... The snowblower was bogging down and barely moving it... Shoveled about 1/2 of it because it kept clogging up.... I'd rather sweat my arse off than shovel snow...

Now you tell me.

Three years ago, my Dad bought a used Sears riding mower (not a lawn tractor) from 1983 for $200 in 8/10 shape. Everything was running just fine until I screwed up the throttle cable. Now, no matter where that cable is tightened, the mower is just about impossible to start, and if/when it eventually does (after grinding down the battery to near-dead), the engine has a lumpy, smoking, flooded-smelling, surging idle. Now he's talking about a new riding mower, but a kilobuck is out of the question.

Me, I'll just keep on pushing our 20-year old 3hp B&S 20-incher, without a shred of "safety" equipment on it. Gotta get some exercise somewhere...

The older I get, the harder winter is to take! I think we have had more snow this February than any Feb in the past! Got 4-5 inches of the heavy wet stuff last night!

My mom bought a LawnBoy last year because her old one was on its deathbed. This thing has got to be the Cadilac of push mowers. It has electric start and a variable drive speed. The faster you walk the faster the mower goes. Very nice.

I get by with my 318 John Deere rider. I like it but would like to upgrade to a 420 diesel with 4 wheel steer. My dream rider.

Not that I need it, it only takes me an hour and a half to mow my lawn if I stay on top of it but you know how a gearhead has to have the best toys.

Right now I stay on top of the snow pushing with my 77 Cherokee. It beats the hell out of the old Farmall tractor I used to use that had a narrow front end, no chains, no power steering and no live power. Oh yeah, no cab either. Now that sucked.

I hate to pick nits, Ross, but you had me thinking that it takes you 5 minutes to mow your lawn with your "1/12 hours". I read that as one twelfth, not one and a half...

:D

...or does it actually only take you 5 min for the grass and 10 min for the snow shoveling? I'm so confused...

BTW, since I moved to this damn con-do-minium (as my friend Debbie so redneckedly refers to it), I don't have to cut grass anymore. I'm gonna get fat.

ahhh yeah....it's like at my mom & dad's house...7 acres of grass, lots of rocks to watch out for...and a john deere riding mower :D I used to drink beer and swerve the rocks on the mower a couple summers ago when I'd get bored...I got really good on the thing, I could mow everything in about 5 1/2 hours, not hitting any rocks :D

The grass/weeds were looking pretty scruffy here at the cottage .. So I grabbed the mower out of the shed for the cottages ...( I have the combination:naughty:) and cut the lawn here by our place. seein' how I had the day off ...

The sun was shinning ...temperature was in the low 60's...the beer was cold.... Couldnt pass it up.

The chicken on the grill last nite was excelent too....

Mowing is way overrated, but it's a job that needs to be accomplished. The day my lawn learns the art of oral sex I will look forward to mowing.

Neighbor mowed our yards yesterday- with all my traveling, I pay him to keep after what little yard there is here. Was 65 when I went to bed at midnight. Weather front pushed through and it's 42 right now.

You'd be surprised how many mowers are like that, especially the ones with no engine...

I used to ride a '72 Sears ST-16, big 16 hp single cylinder with a cast iron block that I got for 50 bucks. We called it the Panzer or the Great Wallenda. Had a 46" three blade deck with greasable tapered spindle bearings <grunt grunt>. It finally needed so much work I traded it to a friend for an '83 Sears twin cyl that runs but is not as cool. I've never spent much on mowers, always got em cheap and fixed em up. Long as it has a drink holder...

Yep, I miss the aroma this time of year. :sigh:

Thanks Cubdog, that means next winter will be very mild.

You are not confused Mark. Actually quite perceptive. I takes me 5 and 10 minutes. The rest of the time belongs to my lovely wife.

I'll bet you could rig something up, you can also get mowers for them.

Since they do not have a pto it would have to have an independent engine.

Only used the snow blower once this winter to do our drive and the neighbor's drive. If owning one keeps the effing snow away then I think I'll buy an ice melter as well. Owning an 18HP tractor with a 60" deck does not stop the grass from growing though.

Yes, they have powered mowers, and I do have a 5 gang set of reel mowers that I pull behind, reel mowers are another option.
