We just got this new 1 year old monster 3 weeks ago and he's doing great. More or less rescued him from an owner that couldn't handle him for her own health reasons. Poor little doggy was pretty much kept indoors and had to sleep in a dog crate. Previous owners ordered him from a high-falootin' European Doberman breeding kennel in PA, who whelp them then foster them out locally, then sell and ship by air. The people who "ordered him" lived on a ranch but (said) they couldn't let him run because of the coyotes and havelina. Absolute wrong thing for a European Dobie. They need a full time job.
He's a very happy doggie now. Been introducing him to the mountains, dog parks, freedom of a huge yard, organic chicken and lots of love. Damn thing could barely run when we got him. Now he's a dancing fool. Anyway, he's home now.

Is he a "leaner"?
Most Dobies that I know enjoy leaning against the legs of standing or sitting companions.
Happiness is a warm puppy!

My "lifetime dog" was Junior, a Dobie I shared my life with from 1981-93. I will have other dogs, but he was the one who was my soulmate. I had MANY long, long conversations w/him, neither one of us saying a word. You will understand. He's been gone almost 15 years, & I STILL miss him...
excellent!! I have 2 Giant Schnauzers and if it wasn't for having a very young daughter, we would be part of the local rescue group.
Great looking pup you got there!

Thanks everyone. He's actually my 3'rd dobie (lost our 7 year old a few months ago to a sudden blood clot to the lung).
Yup, he's a leaner! And Sandy, he does mind-meld with us. Man, they're fast learners. He's testing us in everything.

People who don't have Dobies don't understand...But about everybody I know who's had one & has taken the time to really get to know the dog feels the same...

Excellent work, what a lucky dog!
Still missing Kira, she passed in 2005. What a doll she was. The thumbnail pic is her with her cousin Harley in the background.

His registered name from the kennel is Aristo Di Altobello. We call him "rizzy".
Here's his Dad. Some how I think he's going to get a leetle-bit-beeger.

Junior was out of good stock, too-One of his ancestors was Borong the Warlock. We tried a couple times to breed Junior, but he got so upset anytime he was away from home, it never worked. Its just as well, though, because there would never be another dog like him. He had a couple places he liked to stay-up on my bed, curled up on the "arm-pillow" thing I had there, or in this one chair in the living room, usually with a t-shirt or pair of underwear of mine he'd swipe from the dirty clothes hamper...Sometimes I'd fuss at him for doing that, it would absolutely SHATTER him. But I never could get TOO mad at him, I do believe the dog would have laid down his life for me...Dammittall, I'm startin' to get teary...

Its amazing, too, ever since Junior, I've been able to approach Dobies that were "Certified killers", & almost invariably start loving on them. One was in the bed of this guy's pickup, I started scratching on the dog, talked to the guy, quit, the dog pawed me as if to say-"Wait a minute there, Jack, you ain't done THIS side yet !" The guy told me nobody had ever been able to do that w/the dog, he was VERY territorial w/his truck, & yet here he was, wiggling all over, the little stub-tail going 100 MPH...BTW, Fred, that IS a magnificent animal...
