I inadvertently spoil my dog.
Tonight I had a T-Bone steak while I fed him a can of dog food and some dry food mixed in.
He basically left it alone and sat at the BBQ waiting for what he thought was his REAL dinner while I cooked mine.
I caved in and cooked the 2nd T-Bone I'd bought for tomorrow night for myself and fed it to him. Damn Whippet.
When it comes to "treats" there's any number of store bought chews if your willing to pay the price.
Anyone have any DIY recipes?
I can add one idea........ slice sausages into slices and bake till tough. make semi-decent chews for dogs.

One time, driving across Texas, a couple years ago, I had my dog with me...she's a weiner dog/chihaha (I don't know if I spelled that wrong or not) mix, black and brown...nice dog, anyway, I stop at Sonic (jeez there's a lot of sonic locations in TX) and got myself a greeseball double cheeseburger with bacon and jalapinos and fries and all that....I was feeding the dog fries, felt bad, and bought her a cheeseburger....she was one happy doggie :D

Mine eats 2 hotdogs a day. The cheap ones. Loves any type of cracker. Those are 2 cheap snacks. Cheaper that doggy treats.
OH, he gets his dog food too.

Boil fresh beef liver for a few minutes, pat dry, then place on a cookie sheet in the oven at 200degrees for a few minutes until it looks dry. Don't let it get overly dry though as it crumbles. It should be soft but firm.
Cut into bite size pieces depending on the size of your dogs bite. We have a Newfoundland and two Great Danes so our liver bites are on the larger side :D ARF!!

Mine gets sick if he eats "people food". Boiled chicken breast is about as far as I'll go, to avoid having to clean up the mess later.
One of our local school groups made "doggie treats" as a fund-raiser for Christmas this past year. Beef broth, oatmeal, flour, I'm not sure what else. They smelled so good I was tempted to try one... but they had cured them after baking to be tough and chewy, and I decided it would be a bit much for me to masticate. :D

Every Saturday I used to take my dog (98lb Belgian Sheppard) in my '69 Mustang on an errand run to the carwash. the grocery store, the liquor store and then to Burger King and the park for a run on Dog Beach near Belmont Harbor in Chicago.
She would patiently wait in the car while I ran my errands, knowing that when we got to Burger King I'd get my fix and she would get a double Whopper, no nothin' - no bun. We'd eat together in the car, then we'd head to dog beach and she'd try to herd all the other dogs into a circle.

My aunt used to cook whole turkeys and slice/dice the meat to feed her dogs. My dad said when he died he wanted to come back reincarnated as one of her dogs.
Here is a web site for homemade dog treats: http://www.hungrymutt.com/

Probably the wrong place for this, but does anyone know a similar web site for cat treats?
