Well I ran some new Video Cables for my Blu-Ray player this week (50' attic run, from scaler to ceiling mounted Sony G90). The big question is if attic work is involved do you do it yourself, or hire someone else? This old man did it himself, and I gotta tell you "No more Attic work for me"

There is a feeling of accomplishment, but I'll save that feeling for ground level work. :thmbsp:

I would do it. I put a new circuit in my box and ran a dedicated line for my system so whats some video cables?

I'm a DIY guy from waaay back. When it comes to attic work, though, its usually done late at night or early in the morning _and_ with lots of planning and very little actual body work up there.

Cheers,

David

DIY is part of the fun.

My run was no fun at all. I had to come up an exterior wall close to a corner, through concrete and a 14" dropped ceiling. The space on the attic side was only 2.5' high where I needed to get the snake. The rest was easy in comparison.

How many lbs did you lose today? I'm sure it was hot up there. :scratch2:

Dear Ivan,

One of the things that differentiates you from most other people with state-of-the-art mega$ systems that we see in magazines is that you do a lot of the work (mental and physical) yourself. There's lots of wealthy people out there who could pay someone to install a system like yours, but the fact that you do most of the work/cabling/etc. gives your opinions on the matters we discuss here a heck of a lot more credibility. My hats off to you!

If you have a girlfriend shouldn't she be "pulling it" for you and not her brother. :)

I run all my own audio and electrical wire in the house, main system is a built in unit and I ran all surround and power wire when I gutted the room. Also ran dedicated 20a outlets w/ their own dedicated grounding rods.

Thanks Alberto, I have always been a hands on kind of guy. The old adage if you want it done right...

Nobody has as much insight, concern, or dedication than the owner. Not to mention, if there ever is an issue or an upgrade we know where to go & how to do it. Priceless!

For me neatness also counts big time. As big and complex as my Main System is, you cannot even see a cable. Try getting a run of the mill installer to pay that kind of attention to detail.

Totally agree ! Nobody cares as much as the owner. THe biggest problem is trying to future proof your self for all the evolution in wire.

ie- coax, composite, component, dvi, HDMI.

I closedmy walls up after running component, so when I migrate to a LCD (my tube tv is still going strong) I'll install an up converter by the TV.

I'm not as concerned about HD imagery as I am sound.
