My MA-6100 was unusable, volume would go up or down without explanation, loud pops and it would become extremely loud. Tried it just as an amp and got occasional static. Terry DeWick had gone over it a couple of times. Turns out I have a bad volume control pot. Decided to take a chance on a new pot from McIntosh. They informed me it may not be better than my old one. Sixty dollars later I have a new one.

Here are a couple of pictures of the new one:

Got tired this evening and decided to finish the job tomorrow. All the pictures I took were to help me if I forgot something.

Cool. When I did this on a '6100, I wasn't paying attention to where each green wire went (not sure if it really matters) and spent quite a bit of time figuring it out. Lucklily, it worked ok afterwards except that there was a dead spot on one channel with the pot near the lowest setting. Ok when turned up a little and balanced well the rest of the way up.

Since you have the cage off, I suggest that you pull the pre amp and driver boards and clean the connections with DeOxit. It just takes a few minutes.

Project complete. Not too tricky. Best of all no extra screws left!:banana:

New volume control pot:

Notice how board bowed up just a little. This is due to difference in size of pot.

Working great! :tresbon::music:
