Hi,
I have put together a couple of really cool vintage setups. The one I am asking about has a Pioneer Spec 1 preamp and Spec 4 amp. What I would like to do is use a SONY STR-DA777ES along with them.
My plan would be to use the Pioneers with the front 2 speakers for music and then utilize the Sony for 5.1. sound.
Is this easy to do? Any advice or suggestions?

You can use the amp through the sony pre-amp, To use it for the main(front) speakers, The pioneer pre amp will be left out of the picture.

Here's a website that has lots of info for your HT receiver including detailed instructions to turn it into 6.1 or 7.1 surround and details on other stuff as well including upgrading your firmware etc. Take a look here, report back.
