As of late, all my attention has been on my two channel sound. Got real involved in the TT project and all I have left is finding a decent low mass tone arm. Real happy at where I am at with it all now!

I tell ya though...I sure am missing the objective when I purchased my 1080i television. Now that the sattelite provider can give me local channels in my area I do think that I will dump Comcast for television and get me a system that will allow me to view high definition. Comcast sooooooo puts the "hush hush" on this amazing signal as they can't give it to me. They try to make it sound like there is no market for HD. BULL CHIT!! Everyone would want such a picture if they could have it. Totally, friggin awesome! Like what color did to black and whilte.

I am gonna look into this a bit deeper I think. Really want to upgrade my old Sony DVD player for a Panny RP91. Its a hell of a progressive scan DVD player with a better DAC in it than most. Sadly I also have to get the HD decoder so I can view HD on my set. Hmmmmm decisions, decisions...

Hey Wild West

What Hi Def programing do you have available to you??? Is it over the airways, antenna or hard wired like cable or a satelite feed?? I am in New York so 9/11 took out Hi Def through over the airways. I have a cable provider but no Hi-Def through them. Also asside from some of the new TV shows what is available in the new format????

Howdie Rob..

From what I understand the Dish satelite system provides various shows in high definition. More and more shows are being broadcast in HD. Sporting events from the major networks etc. I don't have a "list" so to speak I just know it's coming around more and more and I friggin want it. Have you seen the hd picture yet? It's a crime all television is not that way!

I plan on either calling Dish or looking them up here to really get to the bottom of it. Let cha know what I find...

When HD came out a few years ago there were a few programs about it and from what I remember the local stations were starting to broadcast HD but would continue to broadcast regular definition for another 8 years or so.
So my take on it is that once the stations go completely over to HD you will have to have HD to get reception.
My plan is to buy a HD CRT wide screen TV as the plasma screens get more popular and a few generations older. The deep CRTs ought to be fairly reasonable by then and more and into my price range. Having the screen out as far from the wall as the speakers seems like a good idea anyway.
It is going to be so cool with the HD. We have a video of squirrels and birds that gets the cats to try to jump into the TV now. HD and a made for cats DVD ought to be a real hoot!

The cable ops don't have the money to upgrade further to enable HDTV transmission. So for the foreseeable futire it is going to be either Over the Air ( yes, I know tough luck un the NY Metro area) or satellite.

DirecTV has a few HD channels and will be adding more. One of the DirecTV channels is run by Mark Cuban, who is mostly broadcasting sports, but who is trying to tie up as many HD broadcast rights for feature films and other shows as he can obtain. I also believe that HBO has a HD channel, and Discovery is starting one.

The industry is in the classic chicken and egg problem. Do you provide the programming when there's only 2 HD viewrs out there? or do you wait until there's a base of HD TV sets out there?

Well, they had that problem too when color television came out. Who had that kind of TV? I remember those days. Yet when the public found out what an amazing picture it was why they bought the TV's in droves and demanded color programing.

As I travel from customer to customer I see 1080i ready sets everywhere. When I go into Ciruit Chity or Worst Buy most every larger screen TV there is 1080i capable. The base of HD sets is in plenty of hands now to warrant the industry to get off it's butt and get this amazing picture in all of our living rooms. You can bet they have been seriously "hush, hushing" this as a colaborated effort.

Shoot, I have had my 1080i ready set for about 2 years now.
