Hi all,
I am now the proud new owner of a Thorens TD 124 with Shure/SME 3009 tonearm. The anti-skate weight is missing. Any sources for replacements? Thanks! :tresbon:

I would just call Sumiko. Chances are finding someone with an extra are slim. Why is the weight missing anyways?:scratch2:

Hi,
Don't know since the machine is second-hand. It's in superb condition. It has a newly rebuilt idler wheel and a new belt and fresh lubrication. I will be using a Shure M97xE on it. I am also going to look for a spare headshell for it and put a cartridge with a 78 stylus option on that shell.

Go to your local sporting goods store and buy a fishing weight.

They come up on the bay regularly.

There is a guy on there (and he's not me, nor anyone I know) that can pretty well sell you anything for the SMEs.
ps: Kent, congratulations! I'm completely jealous, and of course...

If its like the weight on my Thorens, which was just a metal cylinder on a bit of string, then you can probably go the 25¢ route and find some little washers/nuts to hang on some fishing wire. Took me a bit of messing around with a crappy stylus and a crappyer record, but I eventually got it about right.

The anti-skate weight is just that, a weight like a fishing weight, but it is of a very precise weight of which I don't know (but you need to know). If you must have factory correct SME parts (like I would since I'm so anal), SME actually still carries stock on certain parts for their older arms. Otherwise, as mentioned before, the guy on ebay who has a ton of SME parts is bound to have what you want.
I would just bite the bullet and pay for the factory correct weight and be done with it...your 124 is worth it. Having 2 of them myself, I can say they are one of the best turntables ever made...and I've had many. Read up at www.theanalogdept.com in their Thorens 124 section. Motor adjustment, new rubber (especially motor mounts) and correct lubrication are the difference between an old rumbly sounding idler turntable and a dead silent power-house of a turntable.
Enjoy,
