While cleaning some of my records (LPs), I noticed the word "masterdisk" engraved in the deadwax.

Anyone knows what it means?

Masterdisk is a mastering company. Robert Ludwig used to work for them (initials RL in the dead wax indicates he did that particular record). Other mastering stamps of note include Sterling, Townhouse, TML (The Mastering Lab).

I think that's the company who did the mastering/pressing.

Be sure to check out any Joe Walsh albums. He liked to leave weird messages.

Zep had some trippy stuff too, some LP's has stamped stuff and some it looks lightly hand etched with a scribe or something.:scratch2:

Hi,

MasterDisk is the mastering studio which cut your LP. Robert Ludwig was their star cutting engineer. Lee Hulko also cut for them as well. If you wish, I'll post some of my favorite mastering labs and their engineers.

On occasion United Artists pressings had some interesting engravings in the dead wax. Hawkwinds' Warrior On The Edge Of Time has ''A Porky Prime Cut'' etched into it. I'm fairly sure the name ''Porky'' made it onto a few others too, but I could be wrong.

I had a Heart album out last night, Little Queen, and noticed on side one in the dead wax is written Go for it, and on side two is written Beauty take us

I need to check their other albums.

And please, don't say "my vinyls." "My records" or "my LPs" is good. :thmbsp:

"My vinyls" sounds like something you'd wear on your feet. :D
