has now rolled tubes in his own gear!! And while the 6DJ8 in the Golden Tubes wasn't changed it wooped any combo we tried in the quasi ASL pre. The Golden is actually a stereo SET with OPTs and everything. It was very nice.

Thatch, it was a GREAT time as always. I'm soaking up the tube knowledge you espouse on me like a sponge. Thanks for taking the time to explain the differences in various brands / types of tubes - and it was WAY cool to really HEAR the difference swapping even just ONE tube can make.

Let's not downplay the Radii pre TOO much - I still need to un-ass it. ;)

hehe....I just rolled a vintage NOS Philips SQ goldpinned 7308(6DJ8 varient) into the pre and what a difference from the standard Philips 6DJ8 I had in there. More low end, much much more low end, but the top end apears to have less sparkle. I also have some Siemans 6DJ8's and Amperex Bugle Boys/ round, and "D" Getters. Now I just need a couple Siemans 7308's and I am happy.

If I had the $$ I would buy the Radii in a heart beat, but in all honesty wouldn't you have been a bit pissed if by putting in a few used tubes a $400 piece of gear had beat up on a $900 piece?

Suprised, yes, pissed, no. I set out from the beginning on these particular two to simply keep the one I thought sounded the best, period.

I will admit though, the SEP-1 LOOKS cool, so yeah - I might have been a little disappointed.
