What are these? I can't find any info on them... does anyone know if they're good or are they '70s whitevan? Tweets are upgraded from Acoustic Research.
I really dig the style.
These speakers have been discussed before. I even remember someone posting a catalog scan from the, I think, 1977 catalog a few months back. Try a search in the "speakers" forum. I know if you type in "realistic" a lot will come up and it may take a while to find the relevant post. I do remember that they sounded pretty good from what was discussed about them. Not sure about the tweeter mod, though, it probably improved it.

I completely forgot that Realistic was owned by Tandy Corp! Thanks for that reminder!
I searched the forums and all the pictures are gone, I'll try to look some more in the meantime.
Somebody put Advent tweeters in those! Why? :scratch2:

I will look for catalog pages to scan tomorrow and post them as soon as I can. They are very nice speakers if i recall correctly.

Got a pair a few weeks ago/ downloaded the blurbs first. Not hi-end at all but good for a bit of fun; and running them as a poor-man's sub! [Especially for that price ;)]

"NEW FOR '79!"
I love it. Thanks for the infos. As for why they have Advent tweets, I have no idea... expect this is an upgrade, though?
oldgringo: was the the finish that came with yours, or did you refinish the cabs? They look pretty good.

Those are not mine (they were lifted off an AK ad. in Jan. :D ) but the finish on mine is very similar and looks cool! The tweeters may or may not be an upgrade sonically but my originals, controlled via 'L-pads' (see above attch.), have the sound coming on and going off when adjusting - however a bit of 'waggling' brings it back. I think that they have pots or something, in there, which likely need Deoxit - a fact that might not have been known by whomever replaced them on the ones at which you are looking. [Q: Have the 'new' tweeters been taken off the L-pad set-up?]. If you audition them, use material that will allow you to judge the presence of the treble and the looseness/ tightness of the base, for your taste. The base is a bit sloppy for me but really impressive with low-volume jazz material. Also they sound much tighter with a medium-low power amp/ receiver (Sansui Model Six actually) than with a giant (which surprised me! - but don't forget I'm a newb!). Also, I can't move them far from the back-wall yet, either - I'm hoping that they will be less 'boomy' when I try that.
In any event, they do look good, particularly at that price - I almost contacted them ("Four-in-a-room"!), as my current work-gig is very close to that location :).
PS: They are, as I write, sounding exceptional when played simultaneously with my (bog-standard) EPI 100's - the base pushes through very effectively!
