JVC Wood Coned Speakers? ANyone have any info?

I have seen and heard them. The ones I saw were part of a JVC mini system at Ultimate Electronics. Seems like the set went for something like $600. I know ridiculous. I cant give you much info about their sound as 100 TV's and 50 stereo's were playing through out the store. I do agree that it is an interesting concept. One I would think would work very well if implemented in a serious cabinet.

If you think about it -- I'm sure the cones are laminated or something like that to keep the wood stable and intact. As such its probably not that different than a paper cone, but prettier.

I was intrigued by these awhile back... the cones are made of a thin piece of real wood, soaked in sake before being formed to allow the proper curvature.

I read that they were having trouble with forming the cones, and tried several methods until someone suggested sake and it worked great.

These speakers are supposed to be excellent for wooden instruments like guitars and violins, but I have never heard them.

I've heard them. They are indeed for a mini system and very small. Not large enough for your living room. They are very flat sounding and non-resonant (in other words, no bass). JVC has always had flat acoustic profiles on their speakers, and stayed away from the chrome dome type sound. I was going to buy the system for my wife until I saw the price !!!
