Reel to Reel Uses

I know a lot of people have RTR in their systems, but I am curious as what they use them for. Archiving vinyl? Also, how much do they use them compared to the vinyl, cassette or CD.

Hey Red Stick,
Don't use mine for archiving, I use discs for that. I mostly make mixed music tapes for when I'm too busy to just sit and listen. Or when I'm too lazy. :D

Recording off FM. Not as often as in the past. Not much on the radio these days.
Still cool to watch the reels go 'round 'n 'round.:D

I use my R2R to record from CD, the analog sound that results is very pleasing to my ears. Oh and I can't forget about watching those cool reels spinning around !!! Long Live Analog !!!!

Mostly to play all the commercial and recorded on blanks I find at thrift stores, though I haven't found any in long time! Rob

And of course - seeing those shiny reels turning and VU meters dancing..:D

For making and listening to my world famous compilation tapes (mixes of various genres, or themes, or styles, etc.), for relaxed listening without the ritual required for vinyl, and where ALL the songs are my favorites :music:

Sound quality, live recording, mix tapes, taping off FM (soon as I get my Teac A-6010 I will be doing that), watching reels turn......I just love R2R.

I like to use mine to record shows off the SIRIUS satellite dealy bob - shows like Mansion of Fun, Buffett concerts, Mojo Nixon or other special events. :banana:

I use mine as a fan (just put it on Fast Forward or Reverse, but don't forget to bend the reels a little)...:D

I've got Rhapsody hooked up to my system(s) and make playlists to record. I also tape from FM, though only uncompressed NPR, Marion McPartland, Bob Parlocha and Jazz in the Night. I've got three working decks now, two Teacs a A-3440 + 2300s.... and a Pioneer RT1020L.:music:
