I am putting together a home theatre and need recommendations for decoding and amplification. I don't need all of the latest surround decoding technology as I think 5.1 will be adequate for some time even if they begin encoding things in 7.1 I just don't believe it will make a world of difference. I would be willing to spend up to $2K if it is really worth the extra for sound quality but have seen some high end Yamaha/Denon/Onkyo stuff locally on Craigslist for under $500. If it were only for watching movies, I would go with a less expensive setup but this will be for 2 channel music as well which I am pretty critical about the sound quality. I was looking at used Sunfire stuff on Ebay. Also thinking Mcintosh but think I'd wind up busting my budget with that. Any recommendations? Any big names to avoid that may not be worth the big bucks?
