I just picked up the tuner from AK member Thumpy. It pairs well with my JVC-JA-S77 which is also in the pic. Just looking for anyone that
has any info on these tuners. It was built in 77 and supposedly had a msrp of $320. Other than that there is very little info on Vintage JVC stuff. Works perfectly and I really like the looks.

I have to admit I really like the look of that series of JVC's amps, tuners, and cassette decks. I thought about starting a collection about a year ago but decided to pursue other things. They are fairly rare and very handsome. How would you describe the sound of the JVC in comparison to the Pioneer underneath it?

THe power supply configuration of that amp is pretty impressive. Separate PS transformers and bypass caps on the filters. Looks more like the 21st Century "audiophile" aesthetic than something from the 1970s.
EDIT: I think I have an original brochure with the amp and tuner in it. Meanwhile, here's a placeholder scan from the same brochure of the next few amps down the line from the 77...

The pioneer below is an SX-850. I would say they are pretty equal with a nod to the JVC IMHO. I will probably put the Pioneer in a Bedroom system paired with some Large Advents. It's all good and I really can't find any weakness in the Pioneer or JVC. Both perform beautifully.
