Heres the link to the completed auction for a non-working Scott 296. The seller does not say what may be wrong with it, he just said it won't power up.

Wonder what my working 296 would bring?

I missed the part that said it wouldn't power up.

That amp can be modified to handle many different power tubes, and the dual rectifiers and beefy trannies are a big plus.

I'm thinking the winning bidder didn't see "will not power up" either.

The 296 is a wonderful integrated.

I've always been curious how they compare to the Fisher X-1000.

What am I missing here? Third cup of coffee and I read it 3 times I don't see will not power up anywhere, just tubes not tested, DOH! It's a Isoldit store,I've heard way to many horror stories to pay that kind of money for a delicate and pretty piece like that from them:nono:

When I first saw the auction running I emailed to ask it worked, then they added the tiny will not power up.

those bastards really don't care who they screw over.
i was bidding on a handful of claimed to be 'NOS' tubes recently. with a few hours left, out of good conscious, i asked the seller if all the tubes inside the boxes match what it says on the outside the box. whattayaknow!!! he said, he just used random boxes he had around and that they may or may not be NOS. while the listing said, 'look at the pictures for detail'. luckily, someone else placed higher bid.

If you notice the high bidder is a zero feedback, and they have a reputation of not completing the buying on expensive items and they always seem to bid more than worth sometimes. Back in late December, I put a couple of expensive items and eBay and states that buyers with less than a few feedbacks must email first. Well guess what, several bid anyways, I just put them in a block list after canceling there bids.. They got real pissy with me about it. Oh Well.

Ebay can be very irrational on bids, I sold a cabinet a couple of weeks ago for maybe a $100 more than it was worth for an old used Fisher cabinet. Yet, I see other of my great items receive little in bids. Its a fickle market with them.

I've been watching the 272s, x1000s, and 296s lately. They seem to be all selling around the 1K mark. So that one actually sold for less than the others have been. I thought about bidding on it but buying from a 3rd part rather than the direct owner didn't appeal to me. Plus I would have never bid that much without some sort of gaurantee that the iron was good.
