I have a new Krell KAV-400xi integrated amplifier.
It has no headphone jack.
If I want to listen to my cans, do I need some sort of headphone amp that I connect to the pre-out?
Thanks in advance for any solutions and/or product suggestions.

Yeah, you probably have to get a headphone amp. I dunno if Krell makes one, but there are a lot of good ones out there.

Greetings, most headphone jacks are just hooked up to the amp outputs with a 100 to 200 ohm resistor in series and a 47 ohm resistor to ground to attenuate the signal going to the cans.
You just need a small box to wire up to the amp outputs and a stereo jack to plug the cans into. Then wire up the resistors properly and away you go with a new headphone jack.
Make it as pretty or ugly as you want, it will work the same.
But of course it will SOUND better if its in a nice box with fancy wood panels and pointy feet.

Or just get a set of Stax. Problem solved.
