I developed a terrible reception problem on am/fm radio. I tried replacing the tuner, but that didn't change things. Heard that you have to make adjustments after u replace a tuner. Anyone know what those adjustments are. Or has anyone had this problem and know a common fix.
I can't pick up any stations what so ever. I can tune to them but there is extreme static and can't hear a faint hum/buzzing sound.
Thanks in advance

Hi chad5411 and welcome to AK. :D
I can't help you but there's got to be someone here that has an opinion. :scratch2:

Can you get radio stations on a portable radio or a clock radio brought into the same area where the tuner is? If you get the same noisy reception, that means that there's something nearby that is spewing RF trash into the "air", like a light dimmer or PC power supply. If the portable radio gets clean reception, then try taking a CD player and plugging its audio output into the input jacks you were using on the audio amp. (And check to be sure that the patch cords were not falling out of the jacks, that could cause noise to happen). If you get the same noise, the issue is probably inside the amp. Many Sony amps use Sanyo amplifier modules, and those things can fail, making a lot of noise.

If both old and new tuner modules produce the same symptom, I would strongly look toward a problem in the power supply, or in the downstream signal-processing circuitry.

The problem is only in the tuner mode. Cd, dvd, sat all sound great.
portable radio gets great reception.

If you do not have a schematic diagram for this machine, so that you can examine the portion of the power supply specific to the radio section, and so that you can differentiate among the sub-sections of the "tuner," then immediately, posthaste, without hesitation acquire the prints.
