My Spec 2 rebuild has escalated after searching through the forum here. I will now be replacing the transistors on the amp boards and the R1 as Echowars suggested. I also ordered the trim pots for the idle current and Current Limit control. Beer can caps are coming from Apex Jr. 2.2uf non inductive bypass caps are being added. And I decided to replace electrolytic C4, C5, and C6 on the amp board and C11 and C12 on the power supply assembly with 105C rated equivalent values. I was surprised to see that the new electrolytic caps were all smaller than the original capacitors. Is this typical of new electrolytics versus 30 year old electrolytics?

So far I am still waiting for the R1 reed relay from Digi-Key. They are back ordered so I am in limbo. The Apex caps are still not here yet but I expect them any day. So it looks like I will probably get the bad channel rebuilt except for the R1 relay and just have to wait until the backorder shows up to see if this works. I needed an excuse to work on my taxes anyways.
