A friend of mine took me to a robotics meeting today, and the guy that runs it also has a group o friend over to his house to do random stuff. So i bring my Teac A-6010 R2R over, to see if they can teach me ho to repair/troubleshoot it. That gets done, and I found out that it is the motor that is Shorted. :(. Well, at least I know what the trouble is now.

So my friend and I go to Electronics Exchange, and there is a TON of overpriced BPC and White Van there. Then I spy a 1/2" 4 track Scully machine, and a dead (maybe) Teac A-7030 missing the reel tables. :tears: There are also a couple of Uher 4000's there. Then I see a HUGE pile of reels. I start going through them, and there is a ton of pre-recorded stuff. Then I find a TDK LX35-90, and a BASF LP35 Super. Both in the wrong boxes. The BASF even had paradise Ballroom (graham Edge band) on it! I can never find that, period.

Then I see it. In a plastic bag, there is a pre recorded 7.5ips reel of Dave Brubeck's Time Out. I go up to the front and ask if the store erases the tapes before putting them out, and I get a resounding NO. :D

my friend is paying, so I refrain from going back and looking through everything again for more good blank tape. $2 per reel. The cashier knew that I had 3, but he said that they weren't supposed to be $2, they were supposed to be lower, so he only charged us for 2...:D

I get back to his house, and set up the teac, and thread the tape. WOW! AMAZING SOUND. Even though I have to manually tension the tape, it is worth it all the way. When I got to take 5, well, my friend burst out "I KNOW THAT SONG!!!" and he loved it. What a great time. I also now got him hooked onto tape.

WOW. That was a long post about one small thing....thanks for reading.

Time out is also quite good on vinyl. You are lucky guy to find the prerecorded reel. Outstanding band, outstanding music.

Note to self: Gotta find "Time Out" on reel.

David, does that Time Out reel play at 7 1/2?

Best,

Paul :thmbsp:

O_O I seriously forgot to mention that! yes, it's a 7.5. Woulden'ta bought it if it wasn't! I just happened to have the Teac A-6010 at my friend's house for troubleshooting. That's why I used it. My main deck is a Teac A-3340S, which is 7.5 and 15 only.

Thanks David. :D Seems like we are "brothers" in A3340S land......I found a second 3340S today and bought it..........LOL I've been a sucker for good reel decks since I was your age.....but back when the 3340S was new I couldn't afford it. I had an older A-1200U that got me started, then I had a Lafayette RTR that was pure junk.

The TEAC stainless face machines like the 3340S are still AFAIC some of the best ever made by TEAC. I have the later X-1000R and X-2000R but the 3340S just feels right when you use it, and the build quality is damn good.

Best,

Yeah, I like the looks of the A-3340S, but when I get tapes, or want to do archival work, I got no 3 3/4 speed. (Archival as in transfers).

Also, mine has like no head wear, but a really high noise floor....IDK why.

My school has a 3340 that I am trying to get, but so far, no luck...maybe right before school ends...

I also like the look of the 4010, 6010, 7010 and 7030 (I think that's my fav R2R, if I judge by looks), and the BIG Pioneers.
