Supposedly this is an optional connection to using 5 RCA connections in my Rotel RB-985 MkII amp / RSP-985 surround sound processor.

Any advantages/disadvantages?

Do I need a high quality DB25 cable or can I use one that I unearthed from my collection of PC serial cables (it fits)?

I imagine that you would need shielded wires as the 'normal' PC cables are not even twisted pairs.

Thanks. I wish the manual would be more specific if that is the case. all it says is the you can use a DB25 cable with male connectors on both ends. When I found one in my pile of old PC cables, I was thinking that this doesn't look like anything that belongs on nice audio gear. I'll give a Rotel a call or email. I doubt the guys at Best Buy would be able to help me.

The advantage would seem to be just one cable/connection to deal with. The disadvantage, as you see, is finding the right cable.

I wouldn't think Rotel would include this connection scheme if they thought it was going to degrade the sound.
