Wanted to share these pics for those wondering about them, like I was.

Mounted, remove the 2 screws and the whole plate comes out. They are actually white lights with green lens covers. The bulbs solder onto the circuit board on the bottom.

They sure look blue with the lights off:

I hope that helps somebody out there. :thmbsp:

Hi,
I still have my TU-717 tuner, which had a similar lighting scheme, using those little green color filter tubes. They eventually got burned, and I was unable to find a suitable long term replacement, as anything I tried would also become browned from heat. I ended up taking the things out and just settlling for white light in the dial, which actually still looked pretty good.

I also ended up installing screw-in bulb bases for ease of lamp replacement.

Thought I'd post here instead of starting another thread...

What are the bulbs needed for the TU-9900 and does anybody have any tips on installing them?

Also, any source for the blue plastic lens? I'm missing one in mine.

Anyone replaced the bulbs with LED's?

Thanks

Like the pic'sMy eye sight isn't the best but can you read the values on the bulbs in the photo? I didn't think so.

The lamps in the TU-9900 are Stanley 8V, 0.25A bulb. Its a "pigtail" type bulb with two wires coming out of the back. They are not soldered, the white rubber the lamp is embedded in, is pushed over two pins, and can be carefully removed (lifted) of the pins and the lamp can be removed from the white rubber. The white rubber part should be reused, it becomes clear when you get them of.

I don't know where you can get the coulored plastic lenses, I am missing a few myself, but I am sure that AK member Dgwojo can help you with the lamps.

I heard that someone used translucent glass paint to get colored bulbs for tuner dial.
Can eventually be a solution when lenses are unavailable.

Here is a replacement arrangement with big green LED's mounted in an angled (L-shape) aluminium profile. The wholes fit tight on the LED's so they are just pressed in. I found a source of voltage somewhere and used a resistor to scale down to the paralleled LED's.

I know, one of the LED's are burned, if only I could find the spare one I have!!!

So now the faulty LED has been replaced, a bit stronger than the other three. Unfortunately I also have a problem with one of the meter lights.
