What is the lifespan of a general purpose silicon rectifying diode?

Should they be replaced every so often?

The diode in question is a discontinued hitachi part # W06C
The only close substitute I can find is" NTE116 " and I have read several threads where it is advised to stay away from "NTE" products.

Afaik, the life of a diode is indefinite for all intents and purposes.

1N4007 if needed about 6 cents apiece at Mouser. 1amp 1000prv gen purpose diode.

life of a diode is indefinite Until it breaks down and shorts out due to heat,surge,lightning..etc.

Yes, of course.

I assumed the OP was asking if they wear out simply from being used or from aging.

What is the general feeling about "NTE" products for audio use??

all diodes rectify and they don't "wear out"

...but many diodes are not intended for rectification duties...

But the question was... About the NTE

Me too have read things like "NTE are just good for TV repairman...". You know, there is some snobbery in the audio industry.

There is no bad parts, there is many bad applications for good parts...

A 1/2 Watt NTE zener diode will last as long as the original 1/2 Watt part. But if the circuit calls for a 1 Watt diode, the 1/2 Watt NTE will fail for sure, like any other.

Check the datasheet for the original Hitachi W06C diode, and ask yourself if this low amperage diode was adequate everywhere Marantz put them in the circuit. I'm not sure...
