View Full Version : The Ink Spots
so...
as things go, my main gear is unavailable right now, i've been forced to a small subset of vinyl 15-20 records and my daughters sx-737 and TT in her room. I ran thru the albums i have on hand and came to a recent Ink Spots vinyl that I picked up for a quarter.
ya know...that is really some good music. I need to clean this record as its very dirty.
my eyes have been opened to yet another era/style of music. I see the Ink Spots in the thrifts quite often, i might have to add them to my grabs.
I have a couple of their Decca era 78's that need running thru the RCM and commit to CD. One of them is "I Don't Stand A Ghost Of A Chance With You".

The weirdest thing - I was just playing music from that era recently, the Mills Bros and the Three Suns.
At least, I think they're in the same time frame.
'I can't get these spots off my tt!'

This is a wonderful coincidence as I was just about to start a thread on them. I really wish they showed up in the thrifts here, but all we get from that era is wrecked Tommy Dorsey and the ubiquitous Firestone Christmas albums.

I've been picking up Ink Spots & Mills Bros. around here fairly frequently. It really is neat, sometimes I'll put it on for BG music when I'm putzing around the house, so I really don't know the songs' titles that well, but I'm surprised how agreeable I find it. I did a lot of harmony singing in school and I really like to hear it sometimes. I gotta wonder about that name though- Ink Spots! I mean, come on, they'd never get away with that today. Wonder how they felt about it; I'm sure they didn't give themselves that name.

I have long been a fan of both the Mills brothers and the Ink spots. I'm old enough (60) to have grown up listening to my parents records of these groups.
Interesting side note, When Dean Martin was asked what singer he emulated growing up it wasn't Crosby or Sinatra but Harry Mills of the Mills brothers.

I too appreciate the Mills Brothers and the Ink Spots (my mom used to listen to them when I was a kid also)
Check out the sides that Louis Armstrong did with the Mills Brothers. Pure pleasure. You can get this CD cheap. I highly recommend it.
