I've been looking for some russian K40y9 0.47uf 630V or higher caps and haven't had a lot of luck looking on e-bay. I found this site:
www.rutubes.com
however, they want credit card info and it's not a secure site. That makes me pretty nervous. Anyone done business with these folks and they are legit or know where I can get the caps?

It looks like they take paypal. I believe rutubes is ebay seller 'worlddogs' so you could ask that seller to put up an auction for you I they were so inclined.
good luck!

If you want to chance it, use one of those visa gift cards with a predetermined amount of cash on it. I believe I've purchased some 6bm8's from him on bay without an issue.

Good stuff. Just hope it doesn't turn into the absolute raving tornado going on over at AA about these things. Just drives the prices up when people panic buy them :shakes fist: Ah well.

hey-Hey!!!,
There is also some other codes to look out for. MBG is metalized, oil-soaked paper...very nice( quite a suprise actually ), and KBG a true film/foil paper with oil cap. And then there is the Teflon K72....( insert Homer-smiley drooling, as when thinking of beer or donuts).
cheers,
Douglas

This is highly subjective (of course!), but oil capacitors may or may not work for a given system. Personally I've never been a fan of them for line-level / phono work. I do however use them for speaker crossovers.
As usual, my 02c. Try 'em and see if they work for you.

Actually, my diy preamp has a couple K40s bypassed with small K72s and it's a great combo. These caps do take a while to break in though.

I think some credit card issuers allow you to generate a virtual account number for any transactions you want. Your real account number is never given/revealed to the merchant.
My card issuer has this feature but I've never used it.
