I picked up a Soundcraftsmen PA5001A Power Amp last weekend, which the seller, who I had bought from several times in the past, said worked, and much to my dismay,it didnt have a fuse, which tells me something about the seller, but thats not the point. The back panel said to replace with a 3 A B 10 Amp fuse.I asked a guy at Lowes, and he didnt know what to recommend to me,either.I ended up getting 10 AMP 250v fuses.I tried one,and it blew immediately.I tried another one tonight, and the unit went on for a few seconds, and then the fuse blew again.Did I just use colassally wrong fuses,or is there a potentially much bigger problem with the amp?I dont even know what a 3 A B 10 Amp fuse looks like.Any help I could get would be much appreciated.I hope this thing works, cause its a BEAST.

P.S. I just googled the fuse on line, and it shows a ceramic fuse. The ones I have are the standard glass ones.

The typical fuse numbers are AGC and ABC. I believe AGC is a fast blow and ABC is a slow blow. A rule of thumb for replacing fuses is do it once and stop. Each additional fuse you blow does about $25 more damage until you put foil around the fuse and it catches on fire. Unlike computers, you can't reboot and hope for the best.

In the common 1/4" x 1-1/4" size:

ABC is a fast-blow ceramic cartridge, MDA is a slow-blow ceramic cartridge.

AGC is a fast-blow glass cartridge, MDL is a slow-blow glass cartridge.

GBB is a very fast blow fuse, MDQ is a dual element slow blow fuse.

At least according to Bussmann that's what they are.

As far as getting help here on this forum I can't say enough good things. I have learned more from here than any google search on the internet.

As far as your amp blowing fuses, look for something in the output stage as has been suggested.

Good luck
