This morning, I got my 2250B back from AKer dr*audio. It only took UPS twenty-two hours to get it from his house in suburban Cleveland to mine outside Dayton.

While he had it, he recapped the power supply and preamp boards, replaced the ICs on the preamp board, replaced the relay, completely re-lamped with LEDs, replaced the vellum paper, aligned the tuner, tightened the tuner string, cleaned and lubricated the controls, and checked the DC offset and idle current.

I got the receiver home, put it in a WC-22 wood cabinet, and am using it as a tuner/preamplifier for my 510M (also thoroughly refurbished by dr*audio) through its pre-outs. I've yet to try the 2250B's amplifier, but it serves admirably in its present purpose. This is the best my stereo has sounded since joining AK two years ago.

The 2250B was rolled out at the same time as its siblings the 2275 and 2325. Legendary Audio Classics (http://www.classic-audio.com/marantz/mindex.html) has the brochure available at the right of their homepage. This model has been nominated on the internet as the best of the Marantz 22## receivers, as most of the line has by someone at one time or another.

Good stuff, those LED's look great, what speakers do you have hooked up to your 510M?

Very pretty indeed. The pics flatter; the tuner dial is pretty much as blue as you see it pictured, but the meters on the receiver and the amp don't match it exactly. In reality, the meters are slightly more turquoise. It's hardly noticible - I can't get the camera to pick it up.

In reply to Tmac83, I'm currently running some AR-2ax. As soon as the AK Pony Express delivers and I can restore them, I'll be trying a pair of AR-3a. I can't wait!

Absolutely freakin' gorgeous!

I have a 2250B myself and it is probably my all-time favorite Marantz receiver. Right now I've got it hooked up to a set of JBL 4312 monitors and it sounds fantastic.

Good luck with yours.

Very nice!!!

Nothing like the piece of mind of having your equipment restored to top condition.

Enjoy.

Man, that's a beauty! :thmbsp: It sounds like you bit the bullet and had it restored the right way. That '70's era Marantz gear is really beautiful. I remember looking at and wanting the Marantz gear when it was new, but I just couldn't swing it financially. Seeing this one makes me want it all over again! Happy listening! :D

Super pictures, love that over/under blue glow.

I'm doing the exact thing you're doing, running the 2250B preamp into an Apt 1 power amp in the living room driving a pair of JBL 4333B's for the moment. I've got a couple of big Yamaha power amps (P2200 and PC2002M) that I'm cleaning up to try - just can't have enough power.

I've still got some relay cleaning to do on the 2250B amp section because it was intermittent under light volume load, would perk up if driven harder.

Very nice work from Dr Audio, would definately say the work was well worth it.

I use a 2250B in my shop at the moment, when the weather gets really hot I move it upstairs to use in place of my tube gear. I've also used it as a preamp and as an amp with a tube pre. Nice versitile unit.
