View Full Version : What's your favorite Fleetwood Mac Album?

Ever since seeing the thread about Sheryl Crow maybe joining FM I've busted out my extensive album collection and have been perusing. With all their incarnations, their discography is about as diverse as that of any band ever!!

Personally, as much as I love Lindsey and Stevie, I prefer their early albums and find my self listening to them 9 out of 10 times that I reach for an FM record. I listen to Live at the Boston Tea Party a ton!! But that's kind of cheating since it's not a studio album.
Then Play On is amazing, albeit a little uneven, and features two of the best guitar players ever: Peter Green and Danny Kirwan. I can never listen to that album without keeping in mind that Danny was a whopping 19 years old when that album was recorded!!
I've gotten off track, though. My pick today for my favorite album of theirs', or at least the one I play the most often, is Future Games. It's a great record!! There isn't one track on it that I have EVER heard on the radio but it's absolutely superb!! Its very ethereal, folky, transcendental, moody and still absolutely rockin'!
Please let me know what's your fave of theirs' and why. And of course: Happy listening!!!

Every song kicks is my reason. And yes, I do have almost every one from every period.

Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, then anything pre Buckingham-Nicks.

When I sold audio back in the late 70's, Rumors was my favorite demo album. It's still my favorite FM album today.

Amen, Pilot. Rumors is good for the modern Mac.

Self titled. Because back in 1975 I was young, carefree and running wild.

Self Titled. The studio production on that LP blew me out of the water when it came out. Just sounded incredible on this 19 year old's vinyl playback system (I think a Kenwood KA-3500, Stanton 681EEE +Garrard TT, kit-built Speakerlab 6's ).
It still sounds great but the heavy-handed touch with the studio mixing on some of the tracks sounds less dramatic now...

Self titled. Because back in 1975 I was young, carefree and running wild.

...and for these same reasons too. :smoke:

Self Titled and Then Play On.

I love the instrumental portion of Oh Well. That would have been perfect for a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western.

I personally like the 1975 self title the best, but could be swayed if the opportunity ever presented itself to listen to the earlier stuff.....just have not heard it. I live under a rock.

Self-titled and Rumors. Remembered the last one when I was in high school.

Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, probably, though I've always been fond of Bare Trees.

Mystery to me - Bare Trees...

I guess 'Mystery to Me'.

I'll system test with 'Hypnotized'. Now there is a song that'll show any midrange bumps and harshness.

Bare Trees is a more interesting album to me now because it received very little radio play back in the day and the songs are like new music to me.

But I do think Rumours is on the list of best 50 albums of all time.

Bare Trees and Kiln House. I really don't like any of the ones they put out after Buckingham and Nicks joined.

THen Play On ...especially the cassette version I made back in the day and added Green Manalishi and Oh Well1/2. As great as the original was, I thought it was a bit short.

I really like the album, Mystery To Me also! That's a very good record. I really like the jangley lead guitar playing of Bob Weston. I don't of his work outside his two albums with FM but he was a true talent.

ALSO, THANKS ALL YOU COOL AKers OUT THERE FOR ALL YOUR GREAT FEEDBACK!!!!

It really pleases to see all the Fleetwood Mac fans out there!

Bob Weston also played on the album before Mystery To Me, Penguin. That's a good album as well, but his guitar playing on that record is not a pronounced as it is on Mystery To Me.
The standout track on Penguin is the Bob Welch tune, Nightwatch which features eerie, atmospheric, and unaccredited guitar work by Peter Green.
Point of Fact: His unaccredited playing is also featured on the Brown Eyes track from the album, Tusk.
