I know the AP1000 is not out yet, but when it is out...will I need a preamp or is the AP1000 a preamp/audio processor?

I just want to clarify, as I have two 501's powering some new B&W 800D's, but my preamp is a Rotel w/ no balaced outputs! I have a loud buzz with the unbalanced cables at lower volumes, but am willing to endure the pain if the AP1000 is a all in one solution.

Thanks!

PS - Great forum btw!!!

I'm almost positive that it would not require a preamp. After all, McIntosh currently makes only one all-analog multichannel preamp, and I believe that's limited to 5.1, whereas the AP1000 can handle up to 7.1.

AP1000 has all of the audio functions that the MX136 has. It is a full function multi-channel/stereo preamp.

Thanks,

Ron, will the AP1000 support a passthrough mode with a separate two channel preamp such as a C2300 as the MX135 and MX136 do?

Thanks.

Everyone gets confused by pass through. Pass Through is a function of the stereo preamp not the processor. Any processor with left and right front outputs and a 5 to 12 volt trigger line will operate a two channel preamp that is designed for pass through.

Thanks,
Ron-C

I thought that had to be the case since all the MX135 is doing is sending a Power Control Zone A out signal to the passthrough in jack on the C2300. Just wanted to be sure as I'm hoping there's an AP1000 in my future. My mind has been working overtime trying to get my current system ready for the arrival of XRT1K's, XR27, and another 501 next Friday!

Thanks for the prompt response.

Do my eyes deceive me? Did RonC just answer a question about the AP1000? :)

I think we should have some kind of lottery for the closest in price and time to what really winds up occurring.

I was trying. That bait was dangled for Ron-C but nOOOOOO:D. YOu had to rush in and gobble it up. Hell I know the thing is not going to be 25K. I didn't really think Ron would take the bait but I figured you at least you would. Somebody pass that bong. 11K this summer. Great. That's what I wanted to know.
