Just got this bulletin on Myspace from Brendan Perry of DCD:
DEAD CAN DANCE RE-MASTERED! DE-LUXE HYBRID SACD

We finally have a release date for the de-luxe hybrid SACD releases of the catalogue albums. This will be 2 June 2008.

This release will be manufactured in Japan in authentic, vinyl replica, paper sleeves. These will also include replicas of all the original inner bags as well.

There will be a limited edition of 6000 copies per title (except Garden Of The Arcane Delights - 3000)

The standard CD versions will be in super-jewel cases and released in August.

I have to say there is a huge improvement in the sound quality of the new re-mastered albums when compared to previous pressings.

Even I was surprised by the recent technical advances made in audio processing!

best wishes

Brendan
I'm so excited I've damn near got a smile from ear to ear. :D This is one of my favorite groups and the sound quality of their CDs is incredible. I can't imagine how good these SACDs will sound! Amazon.uk is also showing them available for pre-order: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_st?keywords=%22dead+can+dance%22%2Bsacd&rs=229816&page=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3A%22dead+can+dance%22%2Bsacd%2Ci%3 Apopular%2Cn%3A229816&sort=-releasedate

Edit - I just noticed that on the DCD webpage for the remaster discs it shows these were remastered by MoFi: http://www.deadcandance.com/images/DCDmenu_test.swf.1 Click on any of the covers and then on the lower left corner of the page you'll see the MoFi and SACD symbols and underneath it says "MASTERED BY MFSL"

Great Group. I saw them play at the Warner Theater in DC when they were still together.

How very cool.

I saw them last at The Theatre in Chicago, October 12th, 2005 and have the live recording they released to concert-goers of the event. The show, needless to say was... other worldly, spell binding.

Just dropped it in the machine for inspiration. thanks.

Happy Listening! :beatnik:

I first heard something of theirs on a local ( well, Canadian) radio station a few weeks back,"The Ubiqutious Mr. Lovegrove" and wound up getting "Into the Labyrinth" from the library.

Very interesting stuff!!

Their available for pre-order on Amazon ships April 29th.
But $32 a piece is just to much to pay for discs I already own, originals were all great recordings I can't imagine the SACD's being that much better to justify the $32 price point.

Just my .02

Oh no!!! Now I really wish I had a SACD player! Fortunately their albums already sound great on vinyl.

Very interesting stuff!!Into The Labyrinth was my first exposure to DCD also and The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove is my favorite track from that album. I don't like the first album as much as the rest but Spleen and Ideal, Within The Realm of a Dying Sun, The Serpent's Egg, Aion and Spiritchaser are all great! You should definitely give them a listen.

Just my .02When Brendan himself says "I have to say there is a huge improvement in the sound quality of the new re-mastered albums when compared to previous pressings" I doubt he's exaggerating. There have been big advances in A/D convertors and the rest of the signal chain in the 15 - 20 years since most of these albums were released. To top it off, these were remastered by Mobile Fidelity so I'm sure their equipment and attention to detail is above and beyond what even the best record labels would do if they were handling the project.

Oh no!!! Now I really wish I had a SACD player! Fortunately their albums already sound great on vinyl. These are hybrids so they'll play in a cd player or SACD player. In August the cd remasters will be released so they'll be cheaper than the hybrid SACD discs.

Funny, I would agree on both points, thirty-two bucks each is a lot, and I'll bet they do sound better than previous digital (CD) offerings.

Question is, I've got the 4AD vinyl... wonder how that stacks up?!

SACD is a nice sound, even to an analogue snob like myself.
I wouldn't have to get up and flip those over in the middle of the album either...Hmmmm

Happy Listening! :beatnik:

I called the MFSL mastering studio in Cali yesterday and the guy I spoke with confirmed that they did the remastering and he said the masters are in Japan and in the process of being replicated right now. :D They will be released on the 4AD label.

Great! I've been pretty excited about XRCDs lately too, but it's not going to happen with this band. Anyway, I'll only listen to special quality CDs now, otherwise it's just wasting time I could be spending listening to vinyl.

Now i really wish i bought an sacd player.I am pleasantly surprised to see so many Dead Can Dance fans. I have been raving about them for years.
:banana:I love Lisa Gerrard. I love that she sings in her own made up language.
Anyone else enjoying her solo albums as much as me?

I haven't heard her solo albums.

BTW, someone just pointed out to me in this thread that these are hybrid SACDs, if that's your concern. Or perhaps you'd just rather hear them on a SACD player.

Never heard Spiritchaser, read good reviews, I think I'll pick that one up!

Check out Immortal Memory. Great album. Pretty good
recording as well.I am in the market for a new cd player.
I have been debating getting one with sacd support.I know
they say it's a dead format but there is still a fair bit of the
discs around. I have to admit my ignorance.I've only heard one
player and it was a pricey Esoteric. Does sacd sound that much better
on the lower end cdp's?

Here is the link for that album btw:

Duality is good too.

Spiritchaser is amazing. I have it on regular cd.
I often play it late at night :smoke:
