Anyone into Car Audio as well as home?? If so what do you have in your ride? I am installing a system in my 92 Mustang Convertible this summer, power will be a HiFonics Gen VII Aphrodite and an Orion Extreme. I need a Loud system for when the Top is down so you can hear it over the Exhaust:D
Here is what will be going in:

I see Earth Day is over...
Nice amps. I still have a few series VI and VII Hifonics from my car audio days. It's not what it used to be that's for sure. Sold and installed them from '88 to '91, when the Sony CDX-R88 was king.

Jhal,
What HiFonics stuff do you still have. I am still kicking myself for getting rid of my Gen VII Colossus, I got out of car audio and saved the Aphrodite instead of the Colossus :sigh:

In my 1991 VW Jetta, the old system is still running.
(1) Fosgate Power 300 (running everything but the 12s)
(1) Fosgate Punch 200ix (bridged for the 12's)
(1) Soundstream electronic x-over (can't remember the model)
(1) Monolithic preamp (Gain + sub + midbass + midrange + tweeter adjustments)
(2) 12" Kicker sealed
(4) 1" Vifa tweeters
(8) 5 1/4" Kicker mid-bass
Center dash channel is a Vifa 1" and some other 3" midrange
Ancient (and flaky as hell) Sony XM-10something 10 disc changer. Probably should go visit the bay to see if there's a replacement out there.
The Fosgate amps replaced the original Soundstream D series bank of amps that were stolen. Those Soundstreams were sweet amps....two D100 II's and one D200 II model.
I've found that I much prefer the home system(s), but there sure were fun times in the car too :thmbsp:

I have a series 6 Thor, Gemini, and a series 7 Gemini as well. I also had a series 6 Colossus that I sold a few years ago. That amp was absolutely incredible. I would like to get a hold of a 6 or 7 Zeus to complete a vintage care audio system. I have some old Canton mids and highs I have been holding on to as well. I had quite a bit more, but regretfully sold most years ago. If I would have known that the quality of most electronics would have tanked like it has, I would have kept everything.

I agree 100% the new stuff is JUNK. I still have a set of Soundstream SS10, Boston Acoustics and Orion tweeters that will go in my car as well. You read my mind with a Zeus it would be a great addition. The Colossus is a bit of overkill to my aged ears:D . So you are in the Tampa area. My brother lives in Treasure Island off of Gulf Blvd right on the intercostal on Dolphin Dr.

What? LOL. Yes, that poor car is so loose everywhere. I believe the 12s need to be replaced or refoamed because I heard them bottom out last summer when cranking something or other and since then, the volume has been turned way down. I screwed up though. When the Kicker 12s went in around 1996 to replace two older Gold Sound 12s, I used silicone to seal them in instead of foam gasketing.....dooohhh! That's gonna be a bitch to fix.
Have you ever heard of Monolithic? Always wanted their amps, but they were real spendy. Instead, settled for their preamp which is real sweet.

I worked at Monte's Rolling Sound, then moved onto Sensuous Sound Systems. I had my own installation business for a while until I decided to go to school in 1991. By then Circuit City had gotten a grip on the area and made it hard for the little guy to compete. That's why Monte's went out of business, he couldn't match their prices on Sony and Alpine, and make a profit. :thumbsdn:

That is indeed exactly why Monte went out of business.
He'd be in business today if he was selling value rather than cheapest price.
BTW, the big box stores are nearly out of the car audio business now.
Do you know why?
They cannot compete against the little guy.
