I just ordered a Heathkit SA-2. If any of you folks have any experience with this amp I'd sure appreciate any comments you might have on it. I've always had a soft spot for old Heath and Eico products. When a good price on one comes along, I just can't resist.

An unbuilt A9-C and another that needs to be rebuilt. Can of grey hammertone included! Actually I would remove the transformers off the built one , sand and repaint the chassis and put a fresh coat of black on the huge potted transformers. Used construction manual comes with and I think all the parts for the unbuilt kit are present except the wire but I have never inventoried them. I would use new electrolitics in both mono blocks. Heath Kit integrated monoblocks that can very easily be modified with new state of the art input RCAs, Binding posts, power cords and all that fun stuff. Lots of room under the hood for larger caps and even chokes.
I have another pair of 6L6 mono blocks I need to work on and doubt I am ever going to get to these.

I just looked a schematic of your amp over and it is similar in a lot of ways to my AA-121 which I think is a very nice amp. If you end up needing a schematic let me know and I'll post the site for you. If everything is working on it you should be very pleased.

HGman

I am almost positive that I have the instuction manual for my SA-2
around here some where. It is rather large so I would prefer not to make copies of the whole thing but I could make copies of specific pages if you need them. I think i even have the manual for the matching preamp which model numer escapes me now.

The entire manual and schematic for the SA-2 is available for free downloading unline, but thanks for the offer. I collect old Heath when I can find them cheap. Have a beautiful W5-M, which I have modified and upgraded, which I just love. However, ebay and similar places have drove the price right through the roof, and I cannot find a second one at an affordable price. I'm a working folk musician and have a budget that reflects this (my wife thinks I sould spend my money on food and bills. She's not very understanding). Thatch_Ear's amp is very intriquing. Email me about what you are thinking of for a price. Can't promise I can give it serious consideration at this time, but who knows. Some days my ship comes in unexpectedly.
