I have not listened to the rest of Time Honored Ghosts, though. wajobu 04-01-2008, 08:34 PM [Barclay] James Harvest - WOOLLY and his Mellotron!! Well now, while not a huge fan I have enjoyed: BJH: Live* - My Favorite BJH Once Again Everyone is Everybody Else Gone to Earth Their work is either rough around the edges, grandiose, lyrical or musical. Most of their LPs are somewhat inconsistent. Standout tunes for me: Galadriel Mocking Bird The Great 1974 Mining Disaster Negative Earth http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barclay_James_Harvest http://www.bjharvest.co.uk/ Capt.Beyond 05-24-2009, 12:00 PM I heard the psychedelic masterpiece "Medicine Man" a few decades ago on the radio, and instantly loved it, so I bought the single(I was a kid), which eventually disappeared into some other dimension :sadwave:, with a lot of other stuff. I spent a lot of time trying to find that particular version again (studio, faster tempo), but I found the next best thing, an incredible live version, which I'm sure you've heard, that sounds almost identical to the studio single version. I've since seen a couple of expensive compilations on line with the original 45 version of "Medicine Man" included, and I'll probably grab one when the live one eventually disappears. TAGO MAGO 05-24-2009, 04:24 PM I liked their earlier stuff on EMI/Harvest, although I could never get into their albums on Polydor as they sounded too much like the band America for my tastes. They were a good enough band, although they really lacked in the original ideas department. I think they could be dubbed the "Poor Man's Procol Harum" or the "Poor Man's Pink Floyd" at times. Of course Alan Parson's Project is definitely the "Poor Man's Barclay James Harvest". hifi_nut 05-24-2009, 06:18 PM "Time Honoured Ghosts" is a classic, anyway yo look at it. |
