View Full Version : Lirpa Labs
The toilet paper thread got me thinking. Anybody remember Lirpa Labs from Audio magazine? I wish I still had those old issues.:tears:

According to TIC, the Lirpa 4.7 Laboratory - Studio Standard Ultimate FM Tuner went for $19,400 in 2004 - that's gotta be a record.

The Lirpa Labs articles were very funny. Poking fun at the lunacy. I miss Audio Magazine... A beacon of sanity in the audio world, as was Stereo Review.

They had emails in DC saying that a loof lirpa had escaped from the National Zoo and was roaming the streets.

I remember the Lirpa gear! My fave was a cartridge that had HO scale slot car wheels on it and a small antenna, that would ride around your record and transmit a signal.

Hmmm... if you're willing to donate, and if we could find someone else to scan them all, AK could put them on the database server, so they'd be accessable.
Any volunteers?

With the resurgence of vinyl records, I'm hoping Lirpa Labs' steam-powered turntable (http://www.audioreview.com/mfr/lirpa-labs/turntables/PRD_121333_1597crx.aspx) will soon be back in production.
And who can forget the Lirpa 4.7 Laboratory - Studio Standard Ultimate FM Tuner, with its Super Wide, Wide, Narrow and Super Narrow modes. Here it is, in action

I recall they listed a bunch of specs on it - one of them was something like "miles between tire changes".
