I am a 30 year old card carrying audio engineer. I was one of the lucky kids with the parent (or friends parent) that had the dope stereo nobody had heard of (yet, when you're 10). In our house there was a Rotel with some Tempest speakers. Whose potential was only to be discovered when the folks were out of town of course:naughty:. Then there was my friend's dad. I'm talking Luxman amp running some Dahlquists. His parents go away. He tells me to go out to the front yard. He turns up the Lustman (as we have since called it). The front lawn rumbles........You can never look back after that.
Right?

I must second opt80's comment re: SandyG. You see, Sandy is our resident curmudgeon. He lives waaaaaay back in the hills of Tennessee, drives IMMENSE outmoded vehicles, and uses a waterwheel to generate power to run his computer and his fleet of anachronistic electronic gear. It is also rumored that he has a still hidden in the woods.

I'm sure it would, it depends on the amplification curve of the model/brand, but the thing with tubes is.....two different tubes from the SAME company probably even sound different.....I'm sure some of ya'll tube fanciers would attest to that.(?)

Howdy and welcome to AK, Gabriel!

ps: does being a "card carrying audio engineer" mean that there is a university degree in this? I never knew that!

Am I understanding this right? Two R.C.A. 12ax7's would sound different or two 12ax7 different brands would sound different?:scratch2:

Am I understanding this right? Two R.C.A. 12ax7's would sound different or two 12ax7 different brands would sound different?:scratch2: I guess I shouldn't have said "probably", let's change it to "could possibly" sound different from the same brand...Just that apparently the internal component materials of the tubes can have some variances, more in relation to the year they were manufactured.......But definitely, 12ax7 from different brands will sound different. The electrical specs should all match but the "colour" may vary......I never should've opened my big mouth!!!

Peace.

Thanks for the welcome....

I suppose it is a "technical certification" Side note, I went to Trebas Institue in T.O. there, when it was still at Berkeley and Dundas....Regent Park:screwy:...
All you AK'ers would loove the nice studio gear you get to work with in audio school........Now, just need to win the lottery to pay off my student loan!!!!!:sigh:

Gabriel, I'm originally from Oakville but I live in the States. I get up to St. Catherines every once in a while for a Boatnerd meeting in Thorold, watch some boats, check out the desctruction in Port Colborne, Ha Ha. Not too pleased with what's going on at Lock 3.

Good to have you on here...

The coincidence is absolultely freaky. I am really Gabriel from St. Catharines, Ontario. I have Niagara Falls as my location because no one knows St. Kitts. And, I am "Dark Knight".

Wow, 4 folks from the Garden City! I have had relatives on Martindale Road since the 1960's when that was almost out in the country! Not so much any more! I used to spend weekends and summers there. Learned to ice skate in the river down by the rowing club. I live just across the Niagara River in Lewiston.
Welcome to AK!!!
