I've always liked Hollywood Town Hall since buying it new, but I never really knew much about their earlier stuff. Recently picked up a Rhino re-release of Blue Earth. WOW is all I can say. Now I have to find the vinyl copy, which appears to be pretty hard to find.

How these guys never gained more popularity is beyond me. If you like Americana music, folk with a country flair, and great harmonies you should check this album out. :thmbsp:

I like them, but I have issues with sitting through a whole album. There is a sameness that gets to me after four tracks. I have one CD, and will give it some long due play time. My ears may have matured. It has probably been ten years.

I think one of the things that I was so suprised by was the sound of Blue Earth. You'd swear you were sitting in a small club somewhere, and they were playing live about 15 ft in front of you. Whoever set up the mic's and did the recording/mixing did a fantastic job.

Here's the best Jayhawks recommendation I can make: go now and buy Maria Mckee's 'You Gotta Sin To Get Saved' album. The Jayhawks are her backing band, and it's an absolute favorite. Great playing, and really, really playing to specifically support each individual song. I love it.

Also have Blue Earth, Hollywood Town Hall, Rainy Day Music, Smile and Tomorrow The Green Grass here.

If you like the Jayhawks, try Gary Louris new cd - Vagabonds. Well mastered cd, not too loud. Best since Rainy Day Music JMO.
