That.......

is a rather vague question in my opinon. Lots of stuff was good; lots of stuff sucked. Granted I love the fact I own JBL L150A's (built in 1980), but my Toshiba amp really kind of sucks (circa 1986).

I suppose it all depends on what it is, huh?

Peace

Adcom and Luxman both made some nice stuff IME, but I'm not so sure about the extra features bit. Especially with Adcom. (Power switch, input jacks, binding posts, and... well, we can't forget about the clipping indicators, can we?)

That said, 70s' receivers don't do much for me these days either.

QUALITY gear from any decade will stand the test of time. I have a radio that was made in 1935 that is made to almost unbelievable levels of quality...73 years young & it still works...And, given a modicum of care, it will be in 73 MORE years, too.

My JVC equipment from the 80s (my dads' from out of the attic:D) is brilliant sounding, but the tape deck has given up the ghost unfortunately.

It sounds great, but i doubt it will last like any vintage equipment would.

I tend more toward late 70's. Something happened at the turn...

There is always quality stuff from any era. The stuff you really PAY for.

I think the stars aligned in the 70's: Music. Japanese manufacturing. Global economics. Drugs. Analog equipment. Who knows, the US was a disaster but they made great stereo equipment.

I have to say I like stuff from the Early 70s. I guess its preference. They were definitely Built to last.

Carver, Infinity, ML, etc., were all very good.

One amp that stands out in my mind is the Krell KSA 200. Where can you find a similar amp today for around $4k?

In my experience the only decent gear from the 80's was the the upper mid-fi gear like adcom,PSaudio stuff like that Kenwood and yamaha made some decent pieces to but the majority sucked this is just my opinion!
