i am doing a moderate HT installation and my installer proposes as one option on the WAF front the Polk Audio 5.1 Sound Bar-- one o' those jobbers that installs below the screen and somehow replicates surround sound.

anyone heard one?

It uses delay timing to replicate Surround. They are OK - yes WAF but you will be disappointed.

I guy I work with has the Yamaha version. As said, it uses delays, and aimed drivers. Meant to bounce the sound off the walls, and delay the sound to certian areas. They use a mic in your sitting spot for it to calibrate itself.

He said for movies, it looks better than speakers and wires all over the room, and it does throw sound all around you, but evidently the quality of the sound is lacking.. said for music it's a bust..
