Hello World!
I'm Tom and have been hooked on A/V since grade school. You know - the guy who ran the projector.
That was back in the the mid-1960's.
Even so I was never into the actual complete understanding of the more technical aspects of electronics, the closest I ever got was building a Heathkit ohm meter.
I did however manage to learn to understand specs and educate myself to the point where I became am audio bug.
Growing up I found it difficult to afford the goodies I'd lusted over and eventually put those yearnings on the back burner for other pursuits which were more attainable.
Some of my working experiences include video production, audio/video duplication, sound mixing and recording.
Other working experiences include retail and outside sales, photography, mechanics, oilfield, various IT work, web site creation and manual labor.
I've lived in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, New York, Moscow, and finally back home. Currently I reside in Northwestern Montana, out in the sticks and it's snowing as I type.
I started using the Internet in 1989 during the 1200 baud days and have been a member of various boards over the years. That said, I'm well versed in netiquette which leads me to assert you'll find my participation in AK as a humble member.
A few years ago middle age struck and I found myself hitting ebay to re acquaint myself with the market for those items I've either lost, sold, or was unable to acquire. Hence I've lurked on AK seeking the tidbits and pearls which an only an on-line community such as this can provide.
The conversion from lurker to member is now begun and finally the 'search feature' is accessible.
In the last several years I've purchased more than a few silver face era components, mostly Pioneer. However Sansui and I are very close.
For instance I've most of the Pioneer Spec components and even a SX 1980. OTOH I've a Sansui working G-22000 and a non working G-33000 (ebay disaster). My speakers are mostly Sansui with six SP-X9000's and two SP-X9900's. I've also some JBL monitors and Bose 701's.
I'm very fond of the warmth of tube amplifiers coupled with analog components and will eventually look towards tube only amplification.
It's my hope that someday I'll complete an analog recording studio.
As time permits, I'll scan my available brochures and manuals for free distribution in efforts to contribute back to the community.
Well that about covers it, all for now and,
All The Best,
Tom
