I decided to troubleshoot the tuner section (quit picking up stereo signals and theres nasty distortion) of my SX-626 today. When I looked at the service manual in the database, I noticed that things didnt look the same between my unit and the manual. The manual in the database appears to apply to a newer version (based on the serial numbers in the manual).

I had no idea there were 2 versions of this receiver. The PC board layouts are completely different for the tuner section at least. On mine, the tuning capacitor is separate from the tuner board whereas the one in the manual has the tuning capacitor mounted on the board.

Im trying to check for bad caps (theres some of the notorious blue Sanyo caps on this board), any suggestions?
