Hi Tripod,
Since this is a hot topic on this continent, can you tell us something
about the transition to digital broadcasting in South Africa? Thanks
in advance and welcome!

Hi Guys
Thanks for the warm welcome:music: I don't know too much about the availability of vintage gear currently still in Cape Town. I built the house where I stay more than 30 years ago and at that time, had not much interest in old audio gear. I do remember that I saw a certain brand creamy turntables aka transcription motors put out for the rubbish truck:sigh:
Another few years later after the curtains, garden, fences, dogs etc got acquired, I bought my first Garrard 301 (for about 90p US). Shortly after this, I bought a set of 3 Leak tube gear - A Stereo 20 amp, Troughline 11 tuner and the Point One pre. All non-working but they eventually got repaired and still provide daily pleasures - especially the amp and the tuner.
Recently (just after Christmas last year), I got a bit of luck with a greasebearing 301 I bought at a local flea market for about 4$US. It was in perfect condition with nothing broken - just incredibly dirty.
I just love going to this market, about 15km from where I stay. Recent purchase were a Tandberg TCD310 MK2 tape deck which since developed a little problem (details posted elsewhere) and an old Garrard TPA12 tonearm which I added to the grease bearing a few weekends ago. I bought it for the matching cream and of course to play my 78's.
Cheers all
