I have a Sony X33ES CD player and it stopped making music. I opened up the unit, the disc spins and if I tap the transport it will start playing again (making music). After a time or if I tap again it will go quiet, no music, but the disc will continue to spin.
I cleaned the lens, pulled on all the wires to check if they are loose, re seated any connectors.

Any ideas what to do next ???

It sounds like the transport may need to be greased. Clean all the old grees off and put some new stuff on.
