...was trying to get a region specific dvd to play, and thought i'd see if i could change region settings. went into set up, and eventually got a screen that asked me if i wanted to go to default setting. ok, i thought, i'll try that.

instant loss of video. can't even get the setup screen back up. ideas? help? pretty please?

could the default video setting be one that your tv will not display? i know my panasonic rpcrt will show a black screen if fed a 720p signal. maybe try a tv that you know will support all modes.

That would be my guess too.

Maybe try one of the other video output connections to see if you can get a menu. If not, then you'll probably have to take the ops manual and try doing keystrokes step by step to restore some type of video setting.

I did this once on my (hacked) Pioneer dvd player. Set the display type to PAL for shits and grins and could no longer read the menu. It wasn't totally black, but it was unreadable. Had to do the step by step keystroke thing a few times to set PAL back to NTSC.

gents-- far simpler, but thanx for your help. i disconnected the component video cables, hooked up a yellow video cable, went into TV2 on the sony, got picture, went to set-up, and noticed that in video, while i was dinking around yesterday, i had set it for s-video. reconfigged for component cable, pulled the yellow cable, re-connected the component cables, went to TV4 and there was pic and sound. thanx guys
