I was dropping off a donation at the back door of the thrift, so I took the opportunity to look around... Lo and behold I see high-end silver and lots of it. A pair of JBL L-100s, Sansui TU-9900 Tuner, Kenwood Model 600 Amp, Akai GXC 730 Cassette Deck, Akai GX 266D Reel to Reel, Thorens TD 145.

Needless to say my blood pressure went up a couple of notches. When I asked how much, they said it had not been priced yet because they hadn't tested it. I told the guy I'd buy it all tested or not, so he hooks me up with the manager. She agrees to call me back on my cell when she figures out a price for the pile....

I went back to work and paced the floor. I didn't get anything done. An hour later, I got tired of waiting and called back down there. The manager assures me they're working it (looking things up on ebay no doubt) and she would call me back.

A few minutes later she calls back and says $450 for the stack, and they had already moved everything out:eek: to the showroom.

I rushed down there and paid them just in time. Scored the entire stack and let me say it all near mint!

I just fired up the tuner/amp and it is very clean, no noise no dirty controls. The tweeters are dead in the L-100s, no response even to straight signal. :tears: also the foam fronts are missing from the grill covers.

Overall it was a good day. :music:

$450 in a thrift? Hopefully everything is working. The Kenwood Amp would be a definite find. Enjoy your set up.

The amp and tuner are working fine. Apparently they were shipped from overseas and according to the guy there, they were packed up in massive boxes with plenty of foam padding, so very well protected. Too bad they threw the boxes and packing away. Will post pics as soon as I can. The TU 9900 looks cool at night with the black face and green meters and dials.

They knew they had something special. Funny they priced all the components separately.... $35 for the tuner. $200 for the amp. $50 for the speakers, turntable. $100 for the R2R which I almost left there.

The tape players and TT are stashed here and there so they won't be so obvious... but I have the tuner and amp hooked up on the work bench. Here is a pic.

Nice grab... the Kenny 600 fetches around six "C" notes on that auction site.

Not that you would ever want to sell it mind you... but if you did, send me a PM! :deal: :D

I'm still giddy about the whole thing. Wondering what my spouse will say when she sees $450 on the checking account. I'm gonna have to sell something to at least get my investment back so I don't loose hair (scalp) over it.

Ironicly the tuner is potentially the most valuable of the lot, yet it was the lowest priced :scratch2:.

I"ll hand it to them... they tried. Good thing they are no more ebay savy than they are, esle they would have asked $1K and it would have still been a fair price.

At least they knew it was good gear and gave it the respect it deserved. Not just tossing it on the pile. The guy was bragging about how he put the turntable back together. I was hoping he hadn't broken something in the process.
