Hi, I met someone who is selling a pair of Infinity Modulus Speakers without the control unit or the subwoofer. He is asking an outlandish amount for them. I'm sort of interested because these are legendary and I like the size. From what I hear, they pack alot of punch.

What would be a fair price to offer him? It's a long shot but I may give it a try.

Thanks in advance for the assistance!

Are these the original (1990-era) Modulus, or the later Modulus 2 speakers? The original Modulus speakers typically trade in the $300-500 range, tending towards the lower end of that range. I don't follow the later Modulus, so don't really have an idea on the pricing.

If he has the original stands for them, I've seen the stands alone sell for upwards of $250/pair. The combo (speakers + stands) would probably reasonably sell in the $500-600 range.

They're really great little speakers, though.

Agree with David. The original Modulus' that I've seen sell on eBay and Audiogon over the last year or so have all been in that price range.

Thanks to both of you for the assist. These are the originals and not the Modulus 2's. Unfortunately, the owner is asking $800 for the pair and obtaining these is seems like a long shot at best.

I forgot to mention these units have stands but I am not sure if they are original or not. I did not look very closely at them and from what I remember they were made of brown wood. They did not seem to match the speakers and I figured they were aftermarket. Does anyone have a picture of these?

Here's a small promotional picture. The original stands were metal, not wood, with a rectangular cross section. There were four feet, fitted with spikes, and at the top there was an odd arrangement of three recessed cups (which match the three spikes on the bottom of the Modulus speaker). Sorry the picture quality isn't better.

San Diego CL: what appears to be the white satellites and subwoofer for $500, no word on ECU and stands doubtful. Nice.

Thanks for sharing the link. Yes, the Infinitys on Craigslist are very nice. I've made a little progress on the local speakers without the sub but the deal is not closed yet. If I get them, I will let the board now how they sound.
