2270 v 3-piece

What advantages (if any) do the 3-piece setup of a Marantz 115 tuner, 3200 preamp and 140 amp have over a 2270? Other than the "cool" factor and the beauty of them, are there any technical reasons of one setup versus the other? Assuming that either option is working at optimum capability. Thanks!

individual sections are isolated and have their own power supply when you go with separates.

Its kind of hard to sonicly beat a 2270. 140, 115 & 3200 may be more of lateral move from the 2270.

I never had 140, 115 & 3200, but I can listen to my 2270 for hours, which is in great shape , and never tired of it....

I actually did have the 140/3200 setup back when it was new. Cool-looking, but I don't think there's any sonic advantage over a 2270. The 140 is the star of that show, though, and can benefit from a better preamp.
