I have been searching for that perfect balance between cost and performance for awhile...and I can't help but find myself looking at all the 80's (sort of vintage) onkyo integra amplifiers on ebay...
Seems like for what they spec out to...a few hundred for a M-504 or M-506 wouldn't be a horrible investment
Its pretty hard to find much information on the 1980s integra series...so I'm here asking for some experienced opinions...so feel free to offer what you will.

Don't know much about integra series; I own a couple of old Onkyos and like very much their sound (above all the A-10) and I guess that also the 80's amps
are pretty good. An excellent source of information for Onkyo gear is this (unfortunately in german):

they have a large archive and infos.

Onkyo, and particularly the top of the line Integra gear, is rock solid equipment. :thmbsp:

To tell the truth, I'm not really sure differences between power amps are all that important so long as a particular amp isn't noisy, underpowered or prone to exploding. Preamps, yes; power amps, I have my doubts.
At any rate, my main rig uses an Onkyo M-5160, which is a non-integra 80s model with 150 WPC and it sounds fine to me. I also have several other Onkyo items and Paul is absolutely right about their quality.

I really like the large lighted VU meters on the 504's .
